When Professor David McMurray invited me to speak to his students at the International University of Kagoshima, he also invited me to contribute haiku to the feature column he moderates for the English-language online version of Asahi Shimbun, one of Japan’s top three newspapers.

At my event at the Itabashi Central Library, I met writer and journalist Takeshi Yatabe who requested to interview me. His friend Avery Morrow, Ph.D. candidate in Japanese Religious Studies at Brown University (USA), acted as interpreter and we three talked all afternoon and had lunch together.
Our meeting led to Akira Okawada, Editor-in-Chief of Night Land Quarterly (journal of fantasy and horror) writing an in-depth review of my seven books for Young Adults published in Japan, along with a of the Foreword and first two chapters of my novel of magic realism for adults People of the Great Journey (Hay House UK & USA, 2014).
